Blood plasma is the liquid part of the blood from which all cellular elements (erythrocytes, platelets and other cells) are removed. The procedure for separating blood plasma from cellular components is called plasmapheresis and has been used for the treatment of various diseases for more than a dozen years. The equipment for this procedure is produced by international companies such as Baxter and Haemonetics.
The procedure is considered safe and can be carried out repeatedly.
During the procedure, not only the separation of blood cells from plasma, but also the replacement of the collected plasma volume with replacement solutions is performed.
Within the framework of the iUventa project, the plasmapheresis procedure will be carried out twice:
- upon receipt of blood plasma from donors
- during blood plasma transfusion, when the blood plasma of young people will be used for transfusion instead of the usual replacement solution
